Goulburn Street Affordable Housing construction begins

17 Oct 2019

Official building works are now ready to begin on the Goulburn Street Affordable Housing project following State Government approval of the project contractor.

At a press conference on site yesterday afternoon, Minister for Housing Roger Jaensch announced Fairbrother as the principal contractor responsible for the $9 million Housing Tasmania development.

The project commencement comes at a time of significant demand for affordable housing options in Hobart, as limited supply and rising rental costs continue to create challenges within the broader community.

The new development will replace a council operated car park with seven one-bedroom units, 18 two-bedroom units, a shared rooftop courtyard and basement parking.

In undertaking this project we have worked closely with Housing Tasmania to establish an open line of communication with Hobart City Council and the neighbouring residents.

We have worked hard to ensure the design not only accommodates the needs of the new residents but that the building’s form and scale is not out of place in the context of the historic streetscape.
