Goulburn Street affordable housing project approved

23 Oct 2018

In the wake of the highly publicised Hobart housing shortage, Housing Tasmania has received council approval to construct 25 new affordable apartments on the edge of Hobart’s CBD.

The new development, designed by Cumulus Studio, was conceived as a micro-village, replacing a council operated car park with seven one bedroom units,18 two bedroom units, a shared rooftop courtyard and basement parking.

Configured in three parts with frontages on Goulburn Street and Bathurst Street, the universally accessible apartments will complement the built form of inner-city Hobart while offering a refined civic presence.

Director and Architect, Peter Walker shared the following statement after hearing the news on Monday evening:

“As architects, projects such as the Affordable Housing Development Program are a fantastic way to assist the communities in which we operate.”

“We have witnessed the serious impact of the Hobart housing crisis and we feel extremely privileged to be assisting Housing Tasmania in this important new venture.”
