A conversion to centralisation.
This project involved the interior conversion of the Launceston Gasworks Horizontal Retort Building into a new centralised statewide operations centre for TasPorts.
The former Gasworks site, first erected in 1860, was the principal supplier of gas to the City of Launceston before the importation of LPG in the 1970s. Understanding the historical significance of the site, the new interior works were designed to tread lightly within the existing heritage fabric.

Close attention has been paid to the building’s industrial past, with high ceilings, giant timber trusses and exposed brick finishes adding further context within this contemporary office environment.
Natural light, planters and blonde timbers bring life to the solid original structure, facilitating a productive, active place of work.
